The Last 5 Minutes

I have been reading Wayne Dyers book “Wishes Fulfilled” and loving the way he explains the depth of how we actually do manifest. I have heard many of these concepts for years as both a spiritual practitioner at my church in Los Angeles and as a trainer of leaders around the world. And what struck me today was Wayne’s great simple reminder of how we end our day. He talks about how the unconscious part of us is the place that receives the messages of our conscious thoughts and then goes on to do its magical work and makes them real in our lives.

No matter whether our thoughts are positive or negative, our unconscious self will simply make them real. Many of us know this already and yet we slip into that place of forgetting that this is how it really works.

Where do you put your minds attention at the end of the day – that last 5 minutes of half-awake/half-asleep state? Think about that – these are the last thoughts being sent to our unconscious selves, which is the land of dreams and manifesting.

For years, I used to fall asleep watching the news. I realize now that I was sending messages of fear, murder, war and stock market data to my creative self. These days, I’m in the habit of watching reruns of Friends (love it!), which allows me to send messages of love, community, laughter, playfulness and creativity to my creative self. The choice is obvious, right!?

I invite you to try this for 3 weeks: Make a choice about where you put your attention for the last 5 minutes of your day. Pick something that inspires you and brings a sense of fulfillment and joy to you. Try this for 21 days (creating a habit) and see what happens. Let me know, I would love to hear about the difference it makes in what you are creating and attracting in your life.

Namaste- Rick

    Aloha,

Thanks for the challenge and great idea…the sublet I am in has no TV so that is good LOL I will have to depend on me for those last 5 minutes. I didn’t know you had a blog. Is this new?

For the last several years, I’ve listened to Jim Dale reading the Harry Potter books as I fall asleep. It’s enough to concentrate on to keep me out of “monkey mind” and familiar enough that I can fall asleep without wondering what comes next. I just cycle through them over and over again. So, I supposed my last five minutes are filled with magic.

For the last 2 weeks I have been listening to a guided meditation with my son. He falls asleep peacefully and I get to remember how important he is to me.

Thanks for your post, Rick. I’m definitely going to try this!

And just wanted to mention: When my wife or I have trouble falling asleep, we will read Winnie-The-Pooh stories to each other. Definitely helpful for falling asleep with a sense that there is plenty of good in the world!

I really like the challenge…it will be a great reminder to not fall off the boat, so to speak. Hmmmm, since I will be giving up House of Cards (terrible messages but Kevin Spacey is SOOOO Good) at that late hour…what will I choose to replace it?
