Got a Great Idea? Don’t forget this one important thing

Early on in my career, there was a time I had an idea for a workshop that sat in my notebook for over a year. Not because it wasn’t good… but because I never told anyone about it. It was a secret.
We all love that burst of inspiration — that rush of possibility that comes when a new idea lights up inside you. It’s thrilling. It feels alive. You start to imagine how amazing it could be. You dream it. Maybe even journal about it.
And then… nothing happens.
Not because the idea wasn’t good. Not because you’re not talented. But because you didn’t build in the structure to support it. You didn’t tell anyone. You didn’t put it on the calendar. You didn’t take the first tiny next step. That’s what happened to me with that workshop idea. It became the world’s best kept secret.
Here’s what I’ve learned… When I’ve had creative sparks that actually turned into something meaningful — a new workshop, a keynote talk, even writing my book — it wasn’t just because I was inspired. It was because I shared it out loud. I brought in support. I said, “Hold me to this.” In other words, I didn’t keep it to myself.
Your creativity needs a container. Otherwise, it just floats away.
Creating accountability for yourself isn’t about pressure or perfection — it’s about honoring your creativity enough to do something with it. It’s how we take an idea out of our head, and begin to breathe life into it.
So here’s my challenge to you: What’s one creative idea you’ve been sitting on? Something you’d love to bring into the world? Who can you share it with this week? Who can help hold space for you to follow through?
Ideas are beautiful. But action is where the magic lives.
Now… what’s that one thing you’ve been keeping all to yourself? You can share it right here and start to make it real.
Blessings,
Rick
