Laura Whitworth, the co-founder of the Bigger Game, passed away on Feb. 28, 2007, after a two-year courageous battle with lung cancer. She is deeply missed.
Laura and I co-created the Bigger Game in 2002, which came about from her desire to teach coaching skills to prison inmates. It seemed like an impossible idea, and yet Laura was the type of person that just wouldn’t settle for “no.” Laura’s “Time to Change Prison Project” was truly a Bigger Game.
Laura is also a co-founder of The Coaches Training Institute, a world-known coaching and leadership training organization. Yet again, another Bigger Game.
I continue to miss Laura’s wisdom, fire, compassion and zest for life. My most favorite Laura phrase that has so supported my life and my leadership is: “They just don’t know how. We can do something about that.” I continue to hear her say these words to me, and they continue to grow and inspire me!
I can say without a doubt that I am who I am today as a direct result of how Laura pointed me, grew me and woke me up to what it truly means to live fully and with deep meaning.
The Bigger Game continues to grow and morph, and it is her legacy. Laura, I miss you and love you, and I celebrate your life fully!
In gratitude,
Rick Tamlyn
